Shake & Bake Gumboot Dancers

The Shake & Bake Gumboot Dancers were founded by the late Khaya Mbimba, a visionary performer who dedicated his life to preserving and evolving South Africa’s rich cultural heritage. Today, his legacy lives on through Mzonke Mona, his protégé and fellow dancer, who leads the group with passion and precision. Their first groundbreaking performance debuted at the ILERA Conference in Cape Town in 2015, captivating audiences with their high-energy rhythms and deeply rooted storytelling.

The Heartbeat of South African Culture

Gumboot dancing, or "Isicathulo," emerged from the gold mines of South Africa, where workers developed this unique dance form as a means of communication and expression. Over time, it evolved into a powerful symbol of resilience, unity, and celebration. With synchronized stomping, percussive slaps, and infectious energy, Gumboot dancing is more than just movement—it’s a story told through rhythm.

A Performance Like No Other

Each Shake & Bake performance is an electrifying showcase of precision footwork, dynamic beats, and vibrant cultural expression. Whether at a corporate event, wedding, festival, or private gathering, the dancers bring an unmatched energy that engages, excites, and connects audiences. The intricate movements and powerful beats create a lively atmosphere, making any event unforgettable.
